The author gives a new proof of results of Siu, Tian and Tian-Yau. The main result is that every complex del Pezzo surface of degree at most six whose automorphism group acts without fixed points has a Kähler-Einstein metric. This result is an application of Nadel's vanishing theorem for multiplier ideal sheaves.
