The author discusses the consequences for mathematics of the educational reform in the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania between 1773 and 1783. The influences of Polish translations of mathematical textbooks by Simon Lhullier (1750-1840) and Etienne Bezout (1730-1783) are investigated. Josef Jakubowski is mentioned as a translator to which Poland owes a great deal of contemporary Polish mathematical terminology. The reforms of the universities in Cracow (founded 1364) and Vilnius (founded 1579 and closed by the Russians in 1832) are discussed in detail, giving much information on the courses and the contents of the mathematical lectures at pages 107ff. A valuable bibliography concludes this essay.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0976.00021].
