Mathematical models based on reproduction and death processes (English)
0 references
The processes of reproduction and death are discussed, and formulas for calculating the steady state probabilities are given which are then applied to the modeling of two queueing processes: without a waiting room and with infinite waiting room. Formulas describing some of the parameters are derived. The article is based on a lecture given by the author for secondary school teachers in the framework of the ``International Soros Science Educational Program'' and is aimed at presenting contemporary developments in mathematics on an elementary level understandable for secondary school teachers and pupils.
