The textbook is based on famous book of \textit{M. Leontovich} and on fundamental ideas of \textit{J. W. Gibbs}. The text is clear and accessible for beginners. The third edition differs from the previous editions (1966, 1973) essentially. It includes detailed exposition of thermodynamics. Statistical physics is interpreted as the basis of the heat theory. The book contains both equilibrium and non-equilibrium thermodynamics as well as classical and quantum mechanics in parallel. The mathematical character of the text makes it attractive for mathematicians. The most peculiar part of the book is the last chapter. It is devoted to some problems on the boundaries of classical thermodynamics and special Gibbs' constructions of statistical mechanics. Besides that the author discusses the existence of systems with negative absolute temperature, particles with negative mass and 'perpetual motion' of second type. The problems with reversibility in time and causal principle are in the centre of this chapter. The contradictions between micro-reversibility and macro-irreversibility are under consideration, too.
