Nonparametric statistics for social and behavioral sciences (English)
0 references
This is a textbook which covers some traditional topics in nonparametric statistics and categorical data analysis. It starts with introductions to basic principles and designs for research in social and behavioral sciences. The whole process of research, from statement of research questions to writing of final reports, is also described in detail in the first chapter. The second chapter explains the differences between nonparametric and parametric statistics and also the importance and special features of nonparametric methods. The remaining chapters give details of the nonparametric methods covered in this book, which include measurements of association and agreements between two or more samples of observations, tests and confidence intervals for the difference between two or multiple samples, which can be independent or related, and also some one-sample tests. The observations in these samples can be continuous or categorical and, therefore, this book covers materials which would traditionally be appeared in books on nonparametric methods and categorical data analyses. Each method is demonstrated through examples and SPSS dialog boxes, which makes this book suitable for an introductory course.
