The method of virtual waveguide is extended to the modeling of the electrodynamic behavior of ultrawideband electromagnetic pulses in the vicinity of elongated metal bodies. Propagation, transformation and interaction of waves is described by a variational method, namely by a functional, which linearly depends on the magnetic field intensity. The stationarity condition with partial variation is equivalent to the electrodynamic equation.
