Since the mathematical physicist Pascual Jordan supported the Nazi regime (no details about his involvement are discussed in the present article; the author refers to [\textit{Dieter Hoffmann} and \textit{M. Walker}, ``Der gute Nazi: Pascual Jordan und das Dritte Reich'', MPI for the History of Science, Preprint 329, 83--112 (2007)]), he had problems of getting a permanent position after the war. In 1950, W.~Blaschke wrote a letter to the president of the University of Hamburg, P.~Hartek, in which he explained Jordan's scientific merits. This letter is published here for the first time.
