The paper considers numerical methods for the fourth order reaction diffusion equation. A standard mixed finite element method is employed for spacial discretization such that \(C^0\) linear element is sufficient. The time discretization is the backward Euler method. The discrete version of Lyapunov functional is used to obtain a priori estimate. An error estimate is derived using Gronwall's lemma.
