The Cauchy problem for a Korteweg-de Vries equation with variable coefficients \[ \varepsilon v_{xxx}=a(x,t,\varepsilon)v_t+b(x,t,\varepsilon)vv_x \] is studied. Using a nonlinear version of the WKB method the authors construct initial data for which an asymptotic multiphase soliton-like solution exists for that equation.
