The main result of the paper is the followingNEWLINENEWLINE{ Theorem.} Let \(G\) be a finitely generated compact Hausdorff topological group and let \(H\) be a closed normal subgroup consisting of right Engel elements. Then \(H\) belongs to some term of the upper central series of \(G\).NEWLINENEWLINEThis theorem generalizes the result of [\textit{Y. Medvedev}, Isr. J. Math. 135, 147--156 (2003; Zbl 1048.20011)] who proved that any compact Hausdorff Engel group is (topologically) finitely generated.
