The paper surveys some (old and new) results on generalized quadrangles (GQ) with certain transitivity properties. This approach imitates the investigation of translation planes or planes with Singer groups, although the GQ situation is a lot more involved than the projective plane case. The paper collects many interesting deep theorems, no proofs, and for several important definitions just refers to the literature, which makes it not easy to read.
