The authors propose a calculation method for the Mumford-Shah functional which is based on performing processing in the logarithmic domain, thus replacing multiplications/divisions by the computationally cheaper additions/subtractions. Both the standard and the new method were implemented on a DSP board, for the new method the authors observed reduction of execution time by 68\%.
