Two differential equations representing a chemostat with variable nutrient input \(q(t)\) are studied. It is assumed that \(q(t)\) is continuous, nonnegative and bounded on \([0,\infty)\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEExistence, boundedness and nonnegativity of the solutions are proved. Persistence conditions are derived. It is shown that different solutions to the system have the same asymptotic behavior independent of the initial conditions.
