The authors discuss Parthasarathy's concept of shift-compactness. They demonstrate the closeness of some variant notion to his original one. They include also a short proof of the Effros Mapping Theorem. Both these results can be given by implementing a constructive improvement to a theorem on the separation of points and closed nowhere dense sets.
