Analysis and synthesis in Robert Simson's \textit{the elements of Euclid} (Q6639168)

After an account of Simson's life and academic career, \textit{The Elements of Euclid} (1756) is examined in the context of the understanding of analysis and synthesis at his time, which were used to denote approaches to mathematics education, and to characterize the contrast between continental and British mathematical practice.
