After an account of Simson's life and academic career, \textit{The Elements of Euclid} (1756) is examined in the context of the understanding of analysis and synthesis at his time, which were used to denote approaches to mathematics education, and to characterize the contrast between continental and British mathematical practice. Simson's \textit{Elements} was understood by his contemporaries as a synthetical approach opposed to continental mathematical practice.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1516.01006].
