The authors prove the existence of solutions to an initial value problem for an abstract second-order nonlinear evolution inclusion with a time dependent, noncoercive and nonmonotone viscosity term. A key step of the approach is a parabolic regularization. An application to a hyperbolic initial-boundary value problem is included.
