The authors analyze the coupled motion of a grain boundary which is attached at a ``groove root'' to an exterior surface which evolves under the influence of surface diffusion. More precisely, they prove the existence and uniqueness of travelling wave solutions describing grain boundary motion in a bicrystal in the context of the ``quarter loop'' geometry. Also they treat the fully nonlinear problem. A numerical comparison is made with the solution of the partially linearized formulation found earlier for the sake of illustration.
