An adaptive mesh generation method applicable to unstructured quadrilateral grids is presented. The method can be used with or without boundary fitted coordinate generation procedure and is designed to modify only small parts of a grid while not disturbing the remaining part. Finite difference formulae for the use on the adapted meshes are developed but classical difference methods are also applicable. Two test cases concerning the resolution of viscous fluid flow are computed.
