Denote by \((m,n)_ k\) the greatest common divisor of m and n that is a kth power, and let \(\Psi_ k(n)=\sum^{n^ k}_{s=1}(s,n^ k)_ k\). The author proves some relations between \(\Psi_ k(n)\) and other known arithmetic functions, from which he obtains an asymptotic formula for \(\sum_{n\leq x}\Psi_ k(n)\). This generalizes earlier results for \(k=1\) due to \textit{S. S. Pillai} [J. Annamalai Univ. 2, 243-248 (1933; Zbl 0008.19603)] and others.
