The spectrum of the iteration operator for finite element preconditioning of Chebyshev collocation schemes is studied on a one-dimensional Dirichlet model problem. The technique proposed by \textit{P. Haldenwang}, \textit{G. Lobrosse}, \textit{S. Abboudi} and the second author [J. Comput. Phys. 55, 115-128 (1984; Zbl 0544.65071)] for the finite difference preconditioning of the same problem is used. Approximate expressions of the eigenvalues are obtained.
