The authors propose a fractional step \(\theta\)-method for the time-dependent convection-diffusion equation. Using a streamline upwinded Petrov-Galerkin method, a priori error estimates is established. They show that the optimal of \(\theta\) yields a scheme that is second order in time. Numerical examples are presented which demonstrate the method and support the numerical results.
