The authors consider the nonlinear complementarity problem (NCP) on Hilbert spaces, and introduce the class of (Regular Exceptional Family of Elements) REFE-acceptable functions as a mapping defined on a closed convex cone for which NCP has a solution or a REFE. Several instances of REFE-acceptable mappings are provided. In addition a necessary and sufficient condition for the non existence of REFE is established.
