The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the pointwise inversion of Fourier transforms on rank one symmetric spaces of noncompact type for functions in the piecewise smooth category. This work extends results of \textit{M. A. Pinsky} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 47, 653-681 (1994; Zbl 0802.42010)] for isotropic Riemannian manifolds of constant curvature.
