A coordinate transformation taken from \textit{D. Luenberger} [Canonical forms for linear multivariable systems, IEEE Trans. Autom. Control, AC-12, 290-292 (1967)]\ yields the Brunovsky canonical form of a MIMO time-invariant controllable linear system and allows to perform pole placement. The computational advantage is that the coordinate transformation and therefore the pole-placement algorithm depend explicitly on the matrices defining the initial system. The authors state without proof that this approach can be generalized to the time-varying case.
