This paper is a survey of the results on the Finsler spaces with \((\alpha,\beta)\)-metric introduced by the author. Such a metric is a positively homogeneous of degree one function \({\mathcal L}(\alpha,\beta)\) where \(\alpha(x,y) = (a_{ij}(x)y^ iy^ j)^{1/2}\) and \(\beta(x,y) = b_ i(x)y^ i\) with \(a_{ij}\) a Riemannian metric. The whole theory is very significant for Finsler geometry and very useful in certain Finslerian models for Physics. The last three sections are devoted to some new results.
