Nonlinear dynamics of anisotropic disturbances in plane Couette flow (English)
0 references
The dynamics of disturbances to a two-dimensional inviscid Couette flow is examined under the assumption that the disturbances have a cross-stream scale which is asymptotically smaller than their streamwise scale. The asymptotic model that the author derives in the main body of the paper is identical to that of \textit{N. Balmforth}, \textit{D. Del-Castillo-Negrete} and \textit{W. R. Young} [J. Fluid Mech. 333, 197--230 (1997; Zbl 0896.76020)], although their viewpoint is different. The author studies in detail the two-mode interaction and echo effect. Finally, a numerical method is implemented based on a truncated Fourier expansion and successive Farey fractions.
