As a revision of the large sieve inequality, the author provides a character-theoretic inequality on the Prüfer group \(\widehat{\mathbb{Z}}\), which on the other hand can be seen as a non-abelian generalization of a result of Serre for abelian groups. Accordingly, the author also gives a formulation of a general profinite sieve.
